COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Commerce program offers a comprehensive and structured four-year business education, beginning with a broad foundation in Year 1. Students study essential business disciplines, including accounting, economics, management, marketing, law, statistics, and information systems, along with modules such as Developing Critical Thinking Skills and Introduction to Food Business and Development. In Year 2, students continue with core business subjects while starting to explore their interests through a choice of electives. Compulsory modules include topics like management and cost accounting, international business, business ethics, people and organisation, and enterprise planning. Electives span a wide range of areas such as sustainability, global food policy, consumer behaviour, commercial law, and international politics.ear 3 offers students the flexibility to choose from several academic and professional development pathways. They can study abroad for the full year, or for one semester followed by either a six-month work placement or a research project. Alternatively, students can remain at UCC and complete the work placement or research project after two academic semesters. During this year, students also take modules that introduce them to the five thematic majors available in the final year. These include Banking and Financial Markets, Human Resources and Leadership, Business Development and Consultancy, Marketing and Consumer Understanding, and Operations and Supply Chains.In Year 4, students specialise by selecting one thematic major (40 credits) that aligns with their career interests. To complement their major, students also choose 20 credits of minor subjects from disciplines such as accounting, business economics, food business and development, law, management, marketing, maths, and statistics. This final year solidifies their expertise in a specific area while preserving the broad-based nature of the commerce degree. The program is designed to ensure that graduates are well-prepared for the challenges of the business world or further study.
