COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA in Applied Psychology is a comprehensive three-year program that provides students with a solid foundation in psychological theory, research, and practical application. In Year 1, students are introduced to key areas such as Biological Psychology, Lifespan Development, Individual Differences, Learning and Behaviour, Social Psychology, and Neuroscience. Core modules also focus on essential academic and research skills, including Professional and Critical Skills for Psychologists, Digital Literacy, and two research-based modules: Research Methods in Psychology and Research Design and Statistical Analyses I. These lay the groundwork for understanding how psychological principles apply across the lifespan and in diverse contexts.Year 2 builds upon this foundation with a more applied focus. Students study Applied Cognition, Psychology of Childhood and Adolescence, Psychology of Ageing, and Social and Organisational Psychology. Clinical relevance is introduced through modules like Introduction to Clinical Psychology and Psychology and Everyday Life. Biological Psychology is revisited in greater depth, while research and data analysis skills continue to be developed. The year also includes modules on Critical Skills for Applied Psychologists and Conceptual and Historical Issues, encouraging reflective thinking about the evolution and practice of psychology.In Year 3, students undertake a major independent Research Project and participate in Applied Psychology Seminars, Psychological Therapies, and modules that support career development, such as Personal and Career Development and Psychological Measurement. Students can tailor their studies by choosing from a range of electives, including Forensic Psychology, Special Educational Needs, Positive Psychology, Health Psychology, and Contemporary Issues in Work, Technology, and Organisations. Cognitive Psychology and Behavioural and Cognitive Neuroscience are also offered for those interested in deepening their scientific understanding of behaviour. This final year emphasises independent learning, critical evaluation, and real-world relevance, preparing graduates for professional roles or postgraduate study in various fields of psychology.
