COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Physiotherapy is a full-time, two-year program at NFQ Level 9, comprising 180 ECTS credits, with students completing 90 ECTS each year through a combination of academic modules and clinical placements. The course runs from September to September and is structured to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. In Year One, students complete six taught modules covering areas such as anatomy and neuroanatomy, physiology, musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiovascular and respiratory physiotherapy, along with research methods. This year also includes a clinical placement block during the summer, allowing students to begin applying their learning in real healthcare settings. Students who successfully complete 60 ECTS of taught modules in Year One may exit with a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Health Sciences. In Year Two, students undertake six further modules, including topics such as physiotherapy across the lifespan, chronic disease management, exercise medicine, sports medicine, and advanced physiotherapy practice. A major component of the second year is a research project or dissertation, alongside a second clinical placement block and advanced professional skills training. The program includes two significant clinical placement periods overall, ensuring extensive hands-on experience. This structured approach enables students to develop strong clinical, research, and professional skills required for physiotherapy practice.
