COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.Sc. in Statistics and Sustainability is a one-year full-time program worth 90 ECTS credits and awarded at Level 9 on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications. The course runs from late September to early September and is structured into two main teaching semesters, from September to December and January to April. During this period, students complete a range of modules that combine statistical theory with sustainability-focused applications. Core areas of study include foundations of statistics, advanced linear models, geographic information systems, research methods, and sustainability in organisational contexts. Students also participate in group projects that apply statistical tools to real-world environmental challenges, helping them develop practical problem-solving and teamwork skills. A key feature of the program is the integration of statistical modelling, computing, and technologies such as GIS and remote sensing to analyse sustainability issues at both local and global levels. By April, students select a dissertation topic with guidance from a supervisor and begin independent research. The final stage of the program is dedicated to completing a written dissertation, where students apply their knowledge to a specialised sustainability problem. Overall, the structure supports the development of advanced analytical, technical, and research skills for addressing environmental and sustainability challenges.
