COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.Sc. in Sports and Exercise Medicine is a one-year full-time program consisting of six taught modules worth 60 ECTS and a 30 ECTS research project, which must be completed to obtain the master’s degree. Students who complete only the taught modules may exit with a Postgraduate Diploma. The course is delivered primarily through face-to-face lectures, workshops, seminars, and practical classes, with some online clinician-led sessions in the second semester. In Semester One, students focus on foundational science modules including musculoskeletal anatomy, exercise physiology, and research methods. These modules develop knowledge of body systems, physical performance, and research design, with practical elements such as dissection-based learning and training in data analysis and scientific writing. The research methods module supports the dissertation, which runs throughout the year. In Semester Two, the emphasis shifts to clinical and applied learning through modules such as clinical sports medicine, musculoskeletal assessment and rehabilitation, and exercise science. Students gain practical skills in injury assessment, imaging interpretation, rehabilitation planning, and exercise prescription for both athletes and the general population. Teaching includes case-based learning and student presentations to strengthen critical thinking. Overall, the program integrates scientific knowledge, clinical practice, and research skills to prepare students for professional roles in sports and exercise medicine.
