COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.Sc. in Quantum Fields, Strings and Gravity is a one-year full-time program comprising 90 ECTS credits, including 60 ECTS of taught coursework and a 30 ECTS research project completed during the summer semester. The course is structured to provide both core theoretical knowledge and specialised training through two main streams: Formal and Lattice. All students complete a set of mandatory modules, including a dissertation, a theoretical physics student seminar delivered across two semesters, topics in theoretical physics, and lattice field theory. Beyond these shared components, students select modules based on their chosen stream and level. In the Formal stream, students can follow either an advanced or fundamental strand, studying subjects such as quantum field theory, conformal field theory, string theory, general relativity, cosmology, and the standard model. In the Lattice stream, students also choose between advanced and fundamental strands, focusing on computational and numerical approaches, with modules such as numerical methods, programming in C and C++, parallel algorithms, and quantum field theory. This flexible structure allows students to tailor their studies according to their background and research interests. The program integrates theoretical understanding with practical and computational skills, culminating in an independent research project that prepares students for further study or research careers in theoretical physics.
