COURSE CURRICULUM

The Midwifery Practice and Leadership M.Sc. is built around a series of advanced modules designed to strengthen clinical expertise, leadership skills, and evidence-based practice in maternity care. A key focus is Leadership and Women-Centred Maternity Care, which explores approaches to ensuring safe, respectful, and personalised care for women throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period. Advancing Midwifery Practice develops higher-level clinical competencies and supports the application of research-informed practice in real healthcare settings. The module on Perinatal Mental Health and Childbirth Related Trauma addresses psychological wellbeing during and after pregnancy, including the identification and management of trauma-related experiences. Digital Health introduces the role of technology in modern healthcare, examining how digital tools and systems can improve maternity services and patient outcomes. Theory and Practice of Enquiry Methods for Healthcare provides training in research methodologies, enabling students to critically evaluate and conduct healthcare research. Ethics and Law in Health and Social Care focuses on professional responsibilities, legal frameworks, and ethical decision-making in clinical practice. In addition to these taught modules, students are required to complete a research dissertation, allowing them to investigate a specialised topic in depth and contribute to the development of midwifery knowledge and practice.
