COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s (90 ECTS) in Mental Health is structured around a combination of advanced theoretical learning, applied practice, and independent research, designed to deepen understanding of mental health care and related disciplines. The program begins by exploring deconstructing theoretical perspectives on human distress, encouraging students to critically examine how mental health issues are understood and interpreted across different frameworks. A dedicated focus on suicide, suicidal behaviour, and self-harm develops specialist knowledge of risk factors, prevention strategies, and supportive interventions. The module on promoting equality, citizenship, and social inclusion for users of mental health services addresses issues of stigma, human rights, and access to care, highlighting the importance of inclusive practice. Ethics and law in health and social care provides essential understanding of legal responsibilities, ethical decision-making, and professional accountability in clinical and support settings. The theory and practice of enquiry methods for healthcare introduces research methodologies, enabling students to design and evaluate evidence-based studies. Advancing therapeutic engagement skills strengthens practical communication and intervention abilities for working effectively with service users. The program culminates in a dissertation, allowing students to conduct independent research on a relevant mental health topic.
