COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering is a flexible one-year postgraduate program designed for graduates with a bachelor’s degree who wish to deepen their knowledge across advanced mechanical and manufacturing engineering topics. The course combines taught modules with a significant research component, allowing students to specialise while also developing independent research skills. A central requirement is a 30-credit research project supported by a 10-credit research methods module, enabling students to apply theoretical learning to real engineering problems under academic supervision. Students then select additional modules from a broad range of options spanning areas such as advanced thermal fluid sciences, vibrations and noise, control engineering, instrumentation, computational fluid mechanics, finite element analysis, and manufacturing systems. The program also includes interdisciplinary choices in biomedical engineering, biomechanics, biomaterials, tissue engineering, and medical device innovation. In addition, students can engage with emerging sectors such as renewable energy, including wind, wave, hydro, and low-carbon power and transport technologies, as well as energy policy and sustainability. Further options extend into automation, cyber-physical systems, deep learning applications, safety management, supply chain systems, and GIS-based spatial analysis. This diverse structure allows students to tailor their studies toward traditional mechanical engineering, advanced manufacturing, biomedical applications, or sustainable and digital engineering fields, while building strong analytical, technical, and research capabilities through both coursework and dissertation work.
