COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.Sc. in Immunology at Trinity College Dublin is a 90-ECTS one-year program that combines structured teaching with intensive research training. The course is divided into 60 ECTS of taught modules and a 30 ECTS research dissertation, both of which are compulsory. Students also complete a focused twelve-week research project that forms the basis of their final thesis. The taught curriculum provides a comprehensive grounding in immunology through modules such as basic immunology, immunological technologies, immunogenetics, clinical immunology, parasite immunology, tumour immunology, global infectious diseases, and immunotherapeutics and product development. Additional modules in scientific communication, critical analysis, and microbe detection and evasion strengthen students’ analytical and research communication skills. The program emphasises both theoretical understanding and practical application, ensuring students are equipped with modern experimental techniques and research methodologies relevant to biomedical science. A major component is the supervised research project, undertaken in collaboration with leading immunology researchers, where students investigate original scientific questions aligned with active laboratory research. The dissertation produced from this project demonstrates the student’s ability to apply immunological knowledge to real-world biomedical challenges. Overall, the program integrates advanced coursework with hands-on research to develop strong analytical, experimental, and academic skills in immunology.
