COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.Sc. in Global Mental Health is a full-time, one-year program delivered at Trinity College Dublin, requiring students to complete 90 ECTS credits, consisting of 60 credits from taught modules and 30 credits from an independent research dissertation. The academic year is structured into three terms: Michaelmas and Hilary terms are dedicated to taught coursework, while the Trinity term is reserved for completing the dissertation. The curriculum is regularly updated to reflect emerging global health priorities and evolving policy needs. Recent modules include Foundations of Global Mental Health, Epidemiology, Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Culture, Health and Illness. Students also study quantitative and advanced quantitative research methods, alongside qualitative approaches such as reviews and research synthesis. The program places strong emphasis on applied and context-specific learning, with modules addressing global child and adolescent mental health, mental and cognitive health in ageing populations, and mental health systems in humanitarian contexts. Additional training includes Project Cycle Management for Global Health and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in emergencies, highlighting practical skills for work in crisis settings. The mandatory dissertation allows students to conduct independent research on a topic of interest, integrating theoretical knowledge and methodological training gained throughout the course.
