COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.Sc. in Energy Science is a full-time, one-year program delivered at Trinity College Dublin, comprising a total of 90 ECTS credits. The structure includes six compulsory taught modules, each worth 10 ECTS, alongside a 30 ECTS research project. Teaching takes place during weekdays across both semesters in line with the academic calendar. The core modules provide a comprehensive understanding of energy systems, covering areas such as the fundamentals of energy science, conventional energy sources and technologies, power systems and electrical infrastructure, and both introductory and advanced aspects of sustainable energy technologies. Students also examine the environmental and societal impacts of energy use through a module focused on managing energy utilisation. A key component of the program is the research project, which allows students to apply their knowledge to a practical or theoretical problem under the supervision of academic staff or through collaboration with industry. This project helps develop independent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills relevant to the energy sector. Students who do not proceed to the research stage may exit with a Postgraduate Diploma, depending on their performance. Overall, the program offers a balanced combination of theory and application, preparing graduates for careers in energy, sustainability, and related fields.
