COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Community Health is a full-time, one-year program designed for professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in public and community health practice. The academic year begins with an intensive full week of study in September, followed by regular attendance of several days per week for the remainder of the year. The course provides a comprehensive foundation in public health principles, focusing on their application within diverse community settings. Students complete a series of core modules including Determinants of Health, Principles and Practice of Community Health, Epidemiology and Healthcare Statistics, Theory and Practice of Enquiry Methods in Health Care, and Health Promotion and Management of Chronic Disease. These modules are designed to equip students with the theoretical knowledge and practical tools needed to address the health needs of communities effectively. In addition, students choose one elective module from a set of options, including Deconstructing Mental Health and Distress, Child Health Provision in the Community, or Clinical Practicum in Community Health, the latter being available only to registered nurses and midwives. A major component of the program is the completion of a dissertation, allowing students to conduct independent research on a relevant topic of their choice. This enables them to apply their learning in a focused and practical way, contributing to evidence-based community health practice. The MSc aims to develop professionals who are critically aware, research-informed, and capable of leading initiatives that improve health outcomes in community settings.
