COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Child Protection and Welfare is a full-time, one-year postgraduate programme designed for professionals working with vulnerable children and families across a range of services. It offers an intensive and structured learning experience, combining academic study with practical application in professional settings. Students attend the university full-time for one week each month over nine consecutive months, from September to May. In addition to classroom learning, it is expected that students dedicate the equivalent of one day per week within their own workplace to course-related activities, allowing them to apply and reflect on their learning in real-world contexts. The programme includes a range of core modules such as Child Protection Perspectives and Practices, Child Law, Child Development, Interventions with Children and Families, Research Methods, and Contemporary Issues. These modules provide a comprehensive understanding of the legal, developmental, and practical dimensions of child protection and welfare. The course places a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary approaches and evidence-based practice, supporting students to enhance their professional effectiveness and critical thinking. Seminars and workshops on topical issues further enrich the learning experience, offering opportunities to engage with current debates and innovations in the field. The MSc equips graduates with the knowledge, skills, and research capability needed to make meaningful contributions to child protection practice and policy.
