COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Biomedical Engineering is a 90 ECTS programme, consisting of 50 ECTS in taught modules and a 40 ECTS research dissertation. For students who complete 60 ECTS of taught modules, a Postgraduate Diploma may be awarded. The programme is structured into four distinct streams to cater to the academic background and experience of incoming students. The General Stream offers a broad foundation in biomedical engineering for those without prior experience in the field. Core modules include Biomaterials, Biomechanics, Design and Innovation, Experimental and Research Methods in Biomedical Engineering, and a Research Project, with a range of electives available such as Deep Learning, Finite Element Analysis, Tissue Engineering, and Medical Device Design Fundamentals. The Medical Device Design specialisation focuses on developing new clinical solutions by integrating the expertise of clinicians, researchers, and industry professionals. It prepares students for careers in the rapidly evolving global medical device market, emphasizing both technical knowledge and regulatory understanding. The Neural Engineering stream concentrates on neuroimaging and electrophysiological signal processing to address clinical challenges. Students take modules such as Neural Engineering, Neural Signal Analysis, and Data Science in Neuroimaging, supported by foundational subjects in device systems and experimental methods. The Tissue Engineering stream is tailored for students interested in regenerative medicine and stem cell therapies. It covers key areas such as Biomaterials, Laboratory Techniques, and Current Topics in Cell and Tissue Engineering, with options to explore biomechanics, imaging, and device design. Across all streams, students benefit from a research-led learning environment, engaging in state-of-the-art laboratory work and interdisciplinary training. The programme’s flexible structure and specialised pathways ensure that graduates are well-equipped to pursue careers in biomedical research, clinical innovation, and the medical device industry.
