COURSE CURRICULUM

The postgraduate program in intellectual disability and ageing is offered at three levels: the M.Sc. (110 ECTS), the Postgraduate Diploma (P.Grad.Dip., 60 ECTS), and the Postgraduate Certificate (P.Grad.Cert., 30 ECTS), allowing students to choose a study path that best suits their professional needs and availability. For those undertaking the M.Sc. or P.Grad.Dip., Year One typically begins with an intensive study week in September, followed by regular classes held one to two days per week throughout the academic year. This structure is designed to accommodate working professionals, offering a balance between in-depth academic engagement and flexible scheduling.The program includes three specialist modules delivered fully online, removing the requirement for onsite attendance for those parts of the course. This online delivery enhances accessibility and allows students to manage their learning more flexibly while maintaining the academic rigour and depth expected at postgraduate level. The curriculum focuses on developing advanced knowledge and skills in the care of individuals with intellectual disabilities, with particular emphasis on ageing, complex health needs, and policy-related issues.Students benefit from direct engagement with the Trinity Centre for Ageing and Intellectual Disability, including the world-renowned IDS-TILDA research initiative, which offers access to cutting-edge research and expert-led learning. This comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach ensures that graduates are equipped with the competencies necessary to lead, innovate, and promote excellence in person-centred care for older adults with intellectual disabilities.
