COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.Sc. in Addiction Recovery program consists of a total of 90 ECTS credits, combining structured academic learning with independent research. It includes twelve taught modules alongside a dissertation module, ensuring a balanced approach between theoretical knowledge and practical investigation. The taught modules cover a broad and interdisciplinary range of topics, though specific offerings may vary depending on staff availability. Students explore both current and historical perspectives on addiction theory and treatment, gaining insight into how approaches have evolved over time. The program also includes foundational study in recovery concepts, policy, and two research methodology modules that build strong analytical and research skills. Scientific understanding is developed through modules such as substance addiction psychopharmacology and the neurobiology of addiction. Social dimensions are addressed through examination of policies and the wider social context influencing recovery. Practical skills are emphasized through modules on theory, techniques, and evidence-based interventions, as well as their clinical application. Mental health is a key focus, supported by supervised clinical practice modules, including one with a specific emphasis on adolescent populations. The course concludes with implementation strategies, preparing students to effectively apply recovery models in real-world health and social care settings.
