COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.Phil. in Psychoanalytic Studies is a one-year full-time postgraduate program comprising 90 ECTS credits, combining taught modules with an independent research dissertation. Students complete a series of compulsory modules, each designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of key psychoanalytic concepts and their applications. These modules cover a wide range of topics, including psychoanalysis and art, dreams and symbolic life, the emotional development of the child, the mind-body relationship, object relations theory, and the role of the unconscious in groups, organisations, and society. The program also includes research tutorials that support students in developing academic and analytical skills necessary for advanced study. Through these modules, students explore both theoretical perspectives and practical implications of psychoanalysis in clinical and cultural contexts. A major component of the course is the dissertation, which is worth 30 ECTS and requires students to undertake independent research on a psychoanalytic topic of their choice. This research project allows students to apply their knowledge, critically engage with existing literature, and contribute their own insights to the field. Overall, the program is structured to balance theoretical learning with research development, equipping students with a deep understanding of psychoanalysis and the skills needed for professional practice or further academic study.
