COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.Phil. in Contextual Theologies and Interfaith Relations offers a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical study with practical engagement across a wide range of topics. Core modules cover areas such as research methods, religion and politics in pluralist societies, ecumenical theology, liberation and interreligious theologies, and comparative studies including Buddhist-Christian and Muslim-Christian dialogue. Students also explore themes related to conflict, peace, and religious fundamentalism, with specific case studies such as Northern Ireland. The program allows additional flexibility, enabling students to apply for modules from related master’s courses within the School of Religion, Theology, and Peace Studies, including international peace studies, conflict resolution, and Christian theology. Teaching draws on diverse academic perspectives, incorporating approaches from contextual, feminist, liberation, and peace theologies, as well as insights from sociology, politics, ethics, and critical theory. The course also includes experiential learning opportunities, such as visits to places of worship in Dublin, a research trip to Belfast, and a visit to the World Council of Churches in Geneva, sometimes combined with a visit to the United Nations. Participation in international conferences further enhances students’ exposure to current research and global scholarly networks.
