COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.Phil. in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation is offered as a one-year full-time or two-year part-time program based in Belfast through Trinity College Dublin. The course is structured across two academic terms: September to December and January to April, during which students complete a series of taught modules. These modules are delivered through a combination of weekly classes held at Trinity’s Belfast campus and intensive one-week sessions, providing flexibility and depth in learning. The teaching approach allows students to engage with both theoretical perspectives and practical insights into conflict transformation, reconciliation, and social justice.A total of 90 ECTS is required to complete the M.Phil. All students must undertake the core Research Skills module, which is worth 10 ECTS and is designed to build foundational knowledge in academic research methods, preparing students for their independent dissertation work. In addition, students complete 50 ECTS worth of taught modules, which explore a range of topics in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and reconciliation studies. These modules provide a strong interdisciplinary foundation, integrating theory, policy, and practice. The final component of the program is the M.Phil. dissertation, worth 30 ECTS, which students work on independently after completing their taught modules. The dissertation allows students to investigate a topic of personal academic interest within the field of conflict and reconciliation, supported by guidance from experienced faculty. This in-depth research project is a key part of the program, encouraging students to apply their learning to real-world challenges and contribute original insights to the field. Overall, the program structure offers a balanced mix of classroom learning, research training, and field engagement, equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills needed for careers in peacebuilding, community development, public policy, and related sectors.
