COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.Phil. in Comparative Literature is designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of the discipline as both an academic field and a critical practice. The program introduces students to advanced methods for comparing literary texts across different genres, as well as analysing cultural artefacts from various media. Core modules provide a strong theoretical and methodological foundation, equipping students with the tools needed to engage in sophisticated comparative analysis. These modules focus on applying critical theory and interdisciplinary approaches to examine literature within broader cultural, historical, and intellectual contexts. In addition to the core components, optional modules allow students to further refine their skills and explore specific areas of interest, working with texts drawn from diverse languages, cultures, historical periods, and traditions. This flexibility enables students to tailor their studies according to their academic and professional goals. The final stage of the program involves the completion of a substantial dissertation, typically ranging from 15,000 to 20,000 words. This independent research project provides an opportunity for in-depth exploration of a chosen topic under the guidance of a specialist supervisor. Through this process, students develop advanced research, analytical, and writing skills essential for further academic study or related careers.
