COURSE CURRICULUM

The MFA in Theatre Producing offers a flexible structure that can be completed either full-time over 12 months or part-time over 24 months, with students required to successfully complete seven modules to graduate. In the initial stages, both full-time and part-time students undertake four core modules across the first two terms: Theatre in Context, Performing Arts Ecology, Contemporary Theatre Practice, and Creative Leadership. These modules provide a strong foundation in understanding the theatre landscape, artistic practices, and leadership skills. Full-time students continue with Producing Practices 1 and 2 within the same year, while part-time students complete these in their second year. The final stage of the program involves a major practical module delivered in the third term or second year, where students produce a professional theatre production. This may take place in one of The Lir’s studios or as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival, often in collaboration with students from other theatre disciplines. A professional placement is also completed, providing valuable industry experience. The course is highly practice-based and skills-focused, with workshops and seminars led by experienced theatre practitioners. Through individual and group tuition, students gain the practical tools, industry knowledge, and creative insight needed to begin their careers as professional theatre producers.
