COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master in Education (M.Ed.) programme is a 90-credit postgraduate course delivered either full-time over one academic year or part-time across two to three years. The structure includes six taught modules worth a total of 60 credits and a substantial research dissertation worth 30 credits. The taught component focuses on both core educational topics and essential research design and methodology, preparing students for the academic and practical demands of their dissertation work. The programme is designed to accommodate both specialised and flexible learning pathways, allowing students to align their studies with personal and professional goals.Students choosing one of the specialised pathways—Leadership and Policy; Drama in Education; Higher Education; or Psychology of Education—follow a fixed curriculum. This includes four core modules specific to their chosen field and two research methods modules, offering a focused and in-depth exploration of a defined area within education. These pathways provide structured progression and expertise in key educational sectors.Alternatively, students entering through the open pathways option, known as Critical Perspectives – Open Pathways, enjoy a more flexible curriculum. They take two research methods modules, two modules in their selected area of focus, and two additional elective modules from a broad list. Elective areas include Arts Education, Assessment & ICT in Education, Early Intervention, Higher Education, Inclusive Education, Language Education, Leadership & Policy, Mathematics Education, Music in Education, Psychology of Education, Science & Society, and Philosophy & Social Policy in Education. This flexible structure enables students to create a highly personalised programme of study that reflects their interests and career aspirations. Supported by expert academic supervision, all students complete a research dissertation on a chosen topic, developing their ability to conduct independent, evidence-based inquiry in the field of education.
