COURSE CURRICULUM

The LL.M. (General) program in Laws at Trinity College Dublin is a full-time, in-person postgraduate law degree completed over one academic year. The program is structured across two semesters, with students taking three modules per semester, each delivered through approximately 22 hours of taught classes supported by independent reading and research. Teaching is designed to encourage discussion and engagement, often in smaller class groups, and in-person attendance is expected. Assessment methods vary by module and typically include written assignments, presentations, and other coursework designed to develop analytical and communication skills. Alongside taught modules, students must complete a substantial research dissertation on an approved legal topic under academic supervision, allowing them to engage in independent, in-depth legal research. The program is designed to promote critical analysis and reflection on national, European, and international legal issues. Students take six modules in total and can select from a broad range of subjects across both public and private law, enabling them to explore different areas of legal study without specialising too narrowly. This flexible structure supports a well-rounded understanding of law while developing advanced research and reasoning skills. The dissertation component further strengthens students’ ability to conduct structured legal analysis at master’s level.
