COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Radiation Therapy program is structured over four years and combines scientific study with clinical training. In the first and second years, students focus on basic sciences and foundational knowledge, including subjects such as chemistry, physics, biochemistry, physiology, and the structure and function of the human body. They are also introduced to cancer care, psychology, communication, and research methods. Teaching typically involves 20 to 30 hours per week, and students begin clinical placements, completing around four weeks in first year and five weeks in second year. These placements provide early exposure to radiation therapy and help students understand the cancer patient pathway. In the third and fourth years, the course becomes more specialised, with modules in radiobiology, radiation therapy treatment planning, treatment localisation and verification, and advanced cancer care. Students continue studying physics and research methods while gaining extensive clinical experience, with approximately 13 weeks of placement in third year and 15 weeks in fourth year. A key component of the final year is the completion of a capstone research project. Assessment throughout the program includes written examinations, continuous coursework, group and individual projects, oral assessments, and reflective work. In the final year, students are also assessed through a clinical portfolio and research dissertation, ensuring they are well prepared for professional practice.
