COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Nursing – General Nursing program is structured over four years and combines academic study with extensive clinical practice to prepare students for professional nursing roles. In the first year, students are introduced to general nursing in acute care settings, care across the lifespan, biological sciences related to health and wellbeing, health promotion, psychosocial foundations of care, and the basics of professional nursing practice. In the second year, the focus shifts to principles of adult nursing across different care settings, care of adults with altered health, and further development of professional skills through practice placements, care management, and enhancing professional practice, along with an elective module. The third year builds on this foundation with more advanced study of adult nursing care, including care of deteriorating and critically ill patients. Students also continue clinical placements while developing clinical judgement, professional practice, and basic management skills, again supported by an elective option. In the final year, students complete extended practice placements and focus on using research to improve nursing practice, as well as applied clinical management and interprofessional collaboration. Throughout the program, students integrate theoretical learning with real-world clinical experience, enabling them to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to provide safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care across diverse healthcare settings.
