COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Nursing – General Nursing program (Adelaide) is structured over four years and combines academic learning with extensive clinical practice to prepare students for professional nursing careers. In the first year, students are introduced to general nursing in acute care settings, care across the lifespan, biological sciences related to health and wellbeing, health promotion, psychosocial foundations of care, and the basics of professional practice. In the second year, students develop their knowledge of adult nursing across different care settings, including care of adults with altered health, while also gaining experience through practice placements. They continue to build professional skills through modules focused on enhancing practice and managing care, along with an elective option. In the third year, learning becomes more advanced, focusing on complex adult nursing care, including the care of deteriorating and critically ill patients. Students also continue clinical placements while developing clinical judgement, professional practice, and foundational management skills, supported by an elective. In the final year, students complete further practice placements and focus on using research to improve nursing practice, alongside applied clinical management and interprofessional collaboration. Across all years, the program integrates theory with real-world clinical experience, enabling students to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to provide safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care in a variety of healthcare settings.
