COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Religion program is structured over four years, beginning with a broad introduction and progressing to specialised study and independent research. In the first year, students take twelve modules that introduce key areas such as the Hebrew Bible and New Testament in their historical contexts, along with studies of Judaism, Islam, ancient Mediterranean religions, and religious diversity in Asia. They are also introduced to ethics, philosophy, and theology through major thinkers, texts, and methods, helping them decide their preferred areas of focus for later years. In the second and third years, students engage in more specialised and advanced study within their chosen fields. Biblical studies explore different forms of literature and historical interpretation, while theology examines both classical doctrines and modern issues such as religion and science or social justice. Ethics is studied through topics including gender, human rights, bioethics, environment, and conflict. Students may also study the Qur’an and the life of the Prophet Muhammad, and have the option to learn Hebrew or Greek. In the fourth year, students complete a capstone research project, demonstrating independent analysis and writing. They also take advanced modules on contemporary research topics. Assessment methods vary and include exams, essays, portfolios, and class tests, supporting a broad and engaging learning experience.
