COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Physical Sciences program is structured over four years, beginning with a strong foundation in core areas of physics and mathematics. In the first and second years, students study fundamental topics such as classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, special relativity, and thermodynamics. Learning is supported through lectures, tutorials, and both computational and experimental laboratory classes, helping students develop practical and analytical skills. Alongside physics, students also study mathematics and can choose open modules from other science subjects, creating a broad scientific base. These early years are designed to prepare students for more advanced study in areas such as physics, astrophysics, and nanoscience. In the third and fourth years, all students continue with key topics including quantum mechanics, statistical physics, and condensed matter physics. At this stage, students also specialise by choosing a particular pathway, such as Physics. Advanced topics in this pathway include magnetism, semiconductor devices, electronic structure, superconductivity, nanoscience, modern and non-linear optics, nuclear physics, and high energy physics. Additional optional subjects may include energy science, polymers, soft matter, and computer simulation. This structure allows students to build deep subject knowledge while developing strong problem-solving and research skills, preparing them for careers in science, technology, and related fields.
