COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Philosophy program is structured over four years and combines foundational study with increasing academic specialisation. In the first two years, students focus on core foundation courses in the history of philosophy and explore key philosophical problems such as free will and determinism, morality, language, the existence of God, logic, and the limits of human knowledge. These years are designed to build strong critical thinking and analytical skills. In the Joint Honours program, where philosophy is studied alongside another subject, students typically have around five hours of philosophy classes per week, while Single Honours students have approximately double this workload. In the third and fourth years, students gain greater freedom to shape their own academic path by selecting from a range of optional modules, including areas such as political philosophy, ethics, and philosophy of mind. This allows them to specialise in topics that most interest them and align with their strengths. Assessment throughout the degree is based on a combination of essays and formal examinations, with both carrying equal importance. In the final year, students complete a Capstone project, allowing them to undertake independent research on a philosophical topic of their choice, demonstrating their ability to analyse, argue, and engage deeply with complex ideas.
