COURSE CURRICULUM

In the Science program leading to Nanoscience, students spend the first two years building a strong foundation in the core scientific disciplines of chemistry, biology, and physics. This broad grounding prepares them for more specialised study in later years. In the third year, students focus more deeply on advanced topics such as quantum systems, electromagnetism, solid-state physics, condensed matter, and analytical and computational methods in chemistry. At this stage, they may also choose to specialise further in areas like semiconductor physics or polymer chemistry. A significant part of the third year involves practical nanoscience laboratory work, where students design and carry out experiments in the synthesis and characterisation of nanomaterials, helping them understand their properties and applications. Communication skills in science are also developed. In the fourth year, students take advanced modules in materials chemistry and nanoscience, while further refining their problem-solving abilities through small-group tutorials. They can specialise in topics such as magnetism and superconductivity, modern optics, energy science, or computational chemistry. The highlight of the final year is a capstone research project completed over one semester, where students join active research groups in chemistry, physics, CRANN, or partner universities worldwide. This project provides real-world research experience at the forefront of nanoscience.
