COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Music program is structured over four years, gradually moving from broad foundational study to advanced specialisation and independent research. In the first two years, students study core subjects such as Pop Music, Music Theory and Techniques, Film Music Fundamentals, Music Technology, Aural and Keyboard Skills, Critical Writing on Music, and Creative Instrumentation. These modules build essential practical, analytical, and creative skills. In the second year, students continue with these core areas while beginning to specialise in Composition, Musicology, or Music Technology. At this stage, students may also choose a Trinity Elective or a New Minor Subject to broaden their academic experience. In the third and fourth years, the focus shifts towards more concentrated study within chosen pathways, supported by a wide range of optional electives. Students develop advanced knowledge and skills while working towards a major capstone project. This final project may take the form of a portfolio of compositions, a substantial music technology project, or a dissertation. A wide selection of electives is available, including topics such as Acoustics for Musicians, Advanced Composition, Film Music, AI Songwriting, Music and Climate, Performance Practice, Philosophy of Music, Spatial Audio and 3D Sound, and various historical and genre-based studies. This structure allows students to combine creativity, research, and technical development while tailoring their degree to their interests and career goals.
