COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law program at Trinity places strong emphasis on practical, skills-based learning alongside academic study. A key feature of the course is clinical legal education, which gives students the opportunity to gain real-world legal experience and deepen their understanding of how law is applied in practice. In the final year, around 35 to 40 students undertake placements in legal practice settings through partner organisations across the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors. These placements allow students to work in professional environments and experience the practical realities of legal work. Alongside the placement, students attend a lawyering class where they develop important professional legal skills and learn about legal ethics. This combination helps students build the knowledge, values, and practical abilities needed to transition from academic study to the legal profession. Trinity benefits from partnerships with many of Ireland’s leading legal organisations, providing valuable opportunities for hands-on learning and networking. Assessment throughout the law degree is varied and designed to reflect different teaching methods and legal skills. Students are evaluated through a combination of coursework and semester examinations. Assessment methods may include case notes, essays, mock trials, reflective journals, mock parliaments, contributions to online discussion boards, response papers, and research dissertations. Students are informed about the assessment methods for each module at the beginning of the semester. This broad and practical approach ensures graduates develop strong analytical, research, communication, and professional skills for careers in law and beyond.
