COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geoscience program provides students with a strong academic foundation and practical training in understanding Earth systems and processes. In the first and second years, students build core knowledge through modules in geology, physical and human geography, as well as essential subjects such as mathematics, statistics, and computation. Students can also personalise their studies by choosing optional modules from chemical, physical, and biological sciences, along with human geography. In the third and fourth years, the course becomes more specialised, allowing students to deepen their understanding of key geoscience topics while developing practical and technical skills through lectures, seminars, and laboratory-based practical work. Areas of study include climate and environmental change, igneous and metamorphic processes, sedimentology, tectonics, geochemistry, palaeontology, evolution, and the exploration of natural resources such as water, minerals, and hydrocarbons. The program combines theoretical learning with hands-on experience, preparing students to analyse and solve real-world environmental and geological challenges. In the final stages of the degree, students complete an independent research project in their chosen area of specialism, which may be presented as a written dissertation or a geological mapping project. This research-focused and flexible structure equips graduates with valuable scientific, analytical, and field-based skills for careers in environmental management, resource exploration, research, and other geoscience-related industries.
