COURSE CURRICULUM

BA (Hons) Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology (CLAHA) is a flexible four-year degree that allows students to gradually specialise in their chosen areas of interest. In the first year, all students study the three main subject areas and complete core modules in Greek and Roman history, art, and architecture. Students on the single language pathway take additional modules in ancient literature, research methods, and either Greek or Latin at beginner or intermediate level, while dual language students study both languages, starting with Latin first if beginning both from scratch. In the second year, students confirm their pathway and focus more on Ancient History and Archaeology, Classical Civilisation, or language studies, with the option to continue or discontinue a language and to choose Trinity Electives or Open Modules. In the third and fourth years, students specialise further according to their preferred degree outcome. Ancient History and Archaeology modules examine Mediterranean history, archaeology, theory, ethics, and artefacts. Classical Civilisation focuses on literary genres and themes such as philosophy, gender, and mythology. Classics modules offer advanced study of Greek and Roman literature, history, and culture. In the fourth year, all students complete a Capstone dissertation on a topic of their choice, developing independent research, critical thinking, and analytical skills while exploring a subject in greater depth.
