COURSE CURRICULUM

The Trinity College Dublin BA (Hons) Chemistry: Chemical Sciences is a four-year program that builds from a broad scientific foundation to advanced specialised chemistry. In the first and second years, students study foundation and core modules in chemistry and mathematics, alongside other science subjects such as physics or biology, creating a strong interdisciplinary understanding of scientific principles. In the third and fourth years, students deepen their knowledge through advanced modules in organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, gaining a thorough understanding of the fundamental areas of modern chemistry. The course also allows students to explore specialised topics based on their interests, including bio-inorganic and bio-organic chemistry, solid-state materials, interfacial chemistry, and environmental chemistry. A major highlight of the program is the fourth-year Capstone research project, which can be undertaken in one of Trinity’s research laboratories or at an institution abroad. This project gives students valuable hands-on research experience and is often described by graduates as one of the most memorable and rewarding parts of the degree. The program is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), ensuring high academic and professional standards, and it partially fulfils the academic requirements for Chartered Chemist (CChem) status. Overall, the course prepares students for careers in scientific research, industry, and further postgraduate study.
