COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Applied Sports Performance combines scientific knowledge, practical experience, and research skills to prepare students for careers in athlete development and sports performance. In the first semester, students study conditioning for human performance, learning advanced training and conditioning strategies to improve athletic ability and physical performance. They also explore sports technology and performance analysis, gaining practical experience using technology and analytical tools to assess and improve sporting performance. Modules in sports and exercise nutrition provide knowledge on how nutrition supports training, recovery, and athletic success, while skill acquisition examines motor control and learning theories to understand how athletes develop and refine skills. In the second semester, students focus on athlete welfare and management, critically analysing issues related to athlete wellbeing and performance management in modern sport. The placement module allows learners to apply their academic knowledge within real sports performance environments, building professional experience and industry connections. Students also develop strong research skills through applied research methods and study coaching psychology to understand the psychological aspects of coaching and athlete interaction. The program concludes with a substantial research thesis in the third semester, where students integrate theoretical knowledge, practical learning, and critical thinking to complete an independent research project related to sports performance and athlete development.
