COURSE CURRICULUM

The MEng in Mechanical Engineering is structured to develop advanced technical and analytical skills for designing, simulating, and optimising engineering systems across industries such as automotive, aerospace, biomedical, energy, and manufacturing. In Semester 1, students study Sustainable Product and Process Development, focusing on lifecycle analysis, circular economy principles, and environmentally responsible engineering design. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with Engineering Design develops the ability to model and simulate mechanical structures to solve complex engineering problems. Data Analytics and Prediction Modelling equips students with statistical, analytical, and forecasting skills for engineering applications. A year-long Dissertation module begins in this semester, involving research proposal development and literature review leading into a full research study. In Semester 2, Advanced Materials explores high-performance materials and thermal-fluid behaviour, combining theory and computational modelling for industrial applications. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with Engineering Design builds expertise in fluid flow and heat transfer simulation for engineering design optimisation. Digitization and Automation Management introduces Industry 4.0 concepts, focusing on automation systems and digital transformation in mechanical engineering contexts. The Dissertation continues throughout Semester 2, culminating in a comprehensive research project involving design, testing, and analysis. Overall, the program integrates sustainability, simulation, data-driven methods, and digital engineering to prepare graduates for advanced professional and research roles in mechanical engineering.
