COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering in Autonomous Vehicles Engineering provides advanced technical and research-based education focused on the systems, technologies, and safety considerations involved in autonomous mobility. In the first semester, students study autonomous vehicle embedded systems, learning about vehicle electrical and mechanical systems, embedded architectures, communication networks, and emerging technologies in self-driving vehicles. They also examine autonomous vehicle communication and intelligent transport systems, gaining knowledge of wired and wireless communication technologies used in current and future autonomous systems. The module on hardware and software systems, architecture, and design explores vehicle layouts, cognitive control units, and intelligent systems that enable autonomous vehicles to perceive environments, recognise traffic participants, and improve safety, efficiency, and comfort. In the second semester, students study artificial intelligence in modelling and simulation for object recognition and risk analysis, learning how AI-driven simulations support vehicle testing and system evaluation. They also examine sensing technologies such as cameras, radar, lidar, and advanced sensor systems that allow autonomous vehicles to understand and react to their surroundings. Another module focuses on regulations, standards, and safety, helping learners understand the legal and policy frameworks shaping the autonomous vehicle industry. In the final semester, students complete a substantial master’s thesis involving independent research, critical analysis, system design, testing, interpretation of findings, and the development of evidence-based engineering conclusions.
