COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Sustainable Innovation Design is a postgraduate program focused on addressing complex sustainability challenges through innovative, interdisciplinary design approaches grounded in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It develops students as systems thinkers and responsible designers who integrate theory, research, and practice to create ethical and regenerative solutions. The first semester builds core foundations in sustainable and circular design, ethnographic research, and human-centred design for change. Students learn to apply life cycle thinking, conduct cultural and behavioural research, and translate insights into sustainable design interventions, culminating in a reflective process journal. The second semester emphasises applied and collaborative practice through industry-linked projects, where students work with organisations to solve real-world sustainability challenges. They also develop advanced strategic design skills, including systems thinking, service design, scenario planning, and innovation heuristics to manage complexity and uncertainty. The final semester is dedicated to a capstone project in which students independently research and develop a major design outcome such as a product, service, system, or strategy. This project integrates ethical, environmental, and social considerations while demonstrating advanced design thinking, prototyping, and stakeholder engagement. Across the program, students build strong analytical, creative, and leadership capabilities, preparing them for roles in design, innovation, policy, and sustainability-focused industries as change-makers capable of shaping responsible futures.
