COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Instructional and Learning Design is structured as a one-year program that develops both the theoretical understanding and practical skills needed to design effective, engaging, and technology-enhanced learning experiences. Across the year, students build a strong foundation in learning science and instructional practice, starting with key learning theories and their application to learner-centred instructional design and assessment. They also develop project management skills specific to instructional design, including the use of industry tools and collaborative workflows with subject matter experts. Collaboration is a central focus, helping students learn how to integrate diverse perspectives and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams. The program also emphasises creative and digital approaches to learning design, including the use of multimedia, visualization, and gamification to create engaging educational experiences. Students explore mobile and micro-learning design, focusing on usability, interface design, and learning experiences optimised for digital devices. In addition, they study learning analytics and data-driven design to improve and evaluate instructional effectiveness. The program culminates in a major applied project worth 30 credits, where students integrate all their learning to produce a real-world instructional design solution and professional portfolio. Overall, the course prepares graduates for careers in education, training, and digital learning design.
