COURSE CURRICULUM

Design Engineering – BTech (Hons) is a practice-focused program that develops students into creative yet technically skilled engineers capable of solving real-world industrial problems. In the first year, students build foundations in ideation, engineering mathematics, materials, mechanics, CAD, workshop skills, robotics and usability research, alongside an understanding of technology’s role in society. The focus is on creativity, prototyping and developing early engineering competence. In year two, learners progress into design for manufacture, systems design, CAD simulation, robotics programming, mechatronics and innovation-driven engineering, with increasing emphasis on sustainability, user-centred design and industrial relevance. By year three, the program shifts towards advanced manufacturing technologies such as additive manufacturing, CNC and automation, alongside Industry 4.0 systems, supply chain thinking and integrated automation. Students also complete industry projects and significant work placements, gaining real workplace experience. In the final year, learners undertake extended capstone projects linked to industry, combining design, implementation and operational delivery. They also study professional practice, intellectual property, entrepreneurship and innovation diffusion, preparing them for commercial and leadership roles. Overall, the program blends creativity, engineering science, digital technologies and manufacturing systems to produce graduates who can design, develop and deliver innovative engineered solutions while adapting to fast-changing industrial environments and emerging technologies.
