COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Visual Effects for Film, TV and Animation is structured over four years to progressively develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills for careers in the entertainment industry. In the first year, students build foundational abilities in 3D modelling, animation principles, drawing, digital photography, visual communication, and professional communication, alongside introductory coding and design concepts. The focus is on understanding core artistic principles, basic software tools, and essential industry workflows. In the second year, students advance into more specialised areas such as character modelling, compositing, rigging, lighting, pre-visualisation, and creative coding, while also working on teamwork, media production, and short CG projects that simulate real production pipelines. The third year emphasises higher-level skills including effects creation, matte painting, environment design, advanced compositing, digital sculpting, and portfolio development, along with professional preparation through placement opportunities and career planning. Students also complete more complex CG team projects. In the final year, learners specialise further in advanced effects, scripting, virtual reality, and emerging technologies, culminating in a major VFX project that demonstrates industry-standard work. They also refine their portfolios, gain exposure to industry practices, and study how the global media industry operates. Overall, the course blends artistic development, technical mastery, and professional readiness for careers in visual effects and animation.
