COURSE CURRICULUM

The Software Development BSc (Hons) is a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for careers as professional software developers across a wide range of industries. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in programming, object-oriented design, mathematics, databases, operating systems, web development, and computer architecture, alongside communication and interpersonal skills. The second year focuses on deeper technical development, including data structures and algorithms, object-oriented programming, networking, cloud computing, software testing, real-time embedded systems, and data-driven application development, while also strengthening mathematical and problem-solving abilities. In the third year, students advance to secure web application development, enterprise-level applications, computer science theory, group software projects, and a significant work placement that provides real industry experience in an IT environment. The final year expands into advanced topics such as mobile application development, big data analytics, cloud services, cryptography, machine learning, data visualisation, API design, and reactive systems, alongside entrepreneurship, design thinking, and management skills. A major final-year project allows students to integrate all their learning into a substantial software solution.
