COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Software Development with Games Programming is a four-year program that combines core software engineering skills with specialist knowledge in game design and development. In Year 1, students build a foundation in mathematics, programming, web development, databases, computer systems, operating systems, and interpersonal skills, while learning both structured and object-oriented programming principles. Year 2 focuses on applying these skills to game development, including 2D game creation, game design, game play programming, computer graphics, algorithms, data structures, networking, enterprise applications, and software development methodologies such as Agile. Students also strengthen their understanding of mathematics, statistics, and object-oriented theory in a gaming context. In Year 3, the program advances into 3D game engine development, artificial intelligence for games, game physics, design patterns, and team-based project work, supported by a substantial work placement in industry. Year 4 expands into advanced areas such as cross-platform and networked games, game analytics, machine learning, cybersecurity, advanced data systems, mobile and connected devices, and software project management. Students also complete a major game development project that integrates their technical and creative skills. Overall, the program develops graduates with strong programming expertise, game development capabilities, and professional industry experience, preparing them for careers in game development, software engineering, AI programming, and interactive media industries.
