COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Software Development with Cyber Security is a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for careers in secure software engineering and cyber defence. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in programming, mathematics, computer systems, databases, web development, and communication skills, while learning core concepts such as structured programming, object-oriented programming, and operating systems. Year 2 advances into more complex areas including data structures and algorithms, enterprise web frameworks, networking, database programming, system administration, statistics, and introductory cyber security topics such as encryption, network security, and agile development methods. In Year 3, the focus shifts towards applied cybersecurity, including risk assessment, cyber analytics, secure software development, and applied mathematics for security, alongside a major team-based project and a six-month industry work placement to gain real-world experience. In Year 4, students specialise further in areas such as machine learning, cybersecurity operations, mobile and IoT security, data visualisation, and software project management. Advanced topics include deep learning, enterprise information security design, and large-scale data systems, supported by ethical and societal studies of computing. A final-year capstone project runs across both semesters, allowing students to design and build a secure, industry-level software system. Overall, the program develops highly skilled graduates capable of working in software development, cybersecurity analysis, data security, and AI-driven security systems in modern technology environments.
