COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Physical Activity and Health Science is a multidisciplinary four-year program focused on improving health and wellbeing through exercise, physical activity and lifestyle interventions. In the first year, students build a foundation in human physiology, health promotion, exercise science, nutrition, academic skills and scientific principles, alongside an understanding of physical activity trends and their role in disease prevention. The second year develops applied knowledge in exercise instruction, functional anatomy, research methods, statistics, nutrition across the lifespan, behavioural influences on physical activity, and strategies for promoting health in different populations. Students also study how society, culture and measurement approaches shape health behaviours. In the third year, learning becomes more advanced and applied, focusing on research methods, epidemiology, clinical exercise prescription, behavioural change theories, and health promotion for special populations, alongside a substantial professional work placement in a real-world setting. The final year integrates advanced practice and research, with students completing a major research project and modules on designing, delivering and evaluating healthy lifestyle programs. They also develop specialist skills in advanced exercise prescription and public health consultation. Graduates gain strong scientific, practical and behavioural expertise, preparing them for careers in health promotion, exercise physiology, public health, clinical exercise services and community wellbeing programs aimed at addressing modern lifestyle-related diseases and improving population health outcomes.
