COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Pharmaceutical Sciences is a multidisciplinary program designed to prepare students for careers in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and healthcare industries. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics alongside laboratory safety, transferable skills and scientific computing. The second year develops core pharmaceutical knowledge through organic and inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, physical pharmaceutics, dosage form design and analytical techniques, supported by growing quantitative and laboratory skills. In the third year, learning becomes more specialised with modules in pharmaceutical synthesis, spectroscopy, separations, analytical chemistry and biotechnology, alongside pharmaceutical manufacturing concepts. Students also complete a major work placement or industry-related project, gaining real-world experience in regulated environments such as GMP or GLP facilities, while engaging with bioethics, clinical trials and sustainability. The final year focuses on advanced pharmaceutical science, including drug discovery, pharmacology, pharmaceutical technology, bioanalytical techniques, materials science and experimental design. Students also explore emerging trends such as green chemistry and biocatalysis, and complete a substantial independent research project. Across the program, there is a strong emphasis on laboratory competence, analytical thinking, regulatory understanding and industry readiness. Graduates are well prepared for roles in pharmaceutical manufacturing, research and development, quality control or for further postgraduate study in pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences.
