COURSE CURRICULUM

Music and Sound Engineering is a practical honours degree that combines audio production, acoustic technology, instrument design, and creative media skills using industry-standard software, studios, and live sound equipment. Students gain hands-on experience in recording, mixing, sound design, digital audio, video production, and audio electronics, alongside craft skills such as building and repairing instruments, manufacturing acoustic treatments, and creating virtual instruments. The program integrates professional development in marketing, entrepreneurship, communication, and portfolio building to prepare graduates for work in the creative industries. Across four years, students progress from foundational modules in sound engineering, music appreciation, and basic technology to advanced topics such as broadcast audio, film and television sound, video game audio, audio programming, interactive systems, and acoustic design. Work placements and industry projects provide real-world experience, while collaborative modules encourage cross-disciplinary work with animation, design, and business students. In final year, students complete a capstone project and engage in professional-level production, live events, and creative industry practice. The course is designed to produce versatile graduates capable of working in studio recording, live events, sound design, media production, and technology development roles globally in the evolving creative sector with strong emphasis on innovation, collaboration, and employability skills industry readiness focus.
