COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Drug and Medicinal Product Analysis is a laboratory-focused science program that prepares students for careers in the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, and medical device industries. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and introductory pharmaceutical science, supported by practical laboratory work and an understanding of how medicines are developed and manufactured. Year 2 develops core analytical and industrial skills through training in spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques, pharmaceutical biochemistry, microbiology, statistics, and drug manufacturing technologies, alongside quality and process control principles. In Year 3, students deepen their expertise in instrumental analysis, molecular biology, immunology, pharmaceutical formulation, and regulatory frameworks such as Good Manufacturing Practice and quality assurance, while also undertaking an extended work placement in industry. This placement allows students to apply their skills in real pharmaceutical environments and gain valuable professional experience. In Year 4, students engage in advanced analytical techniques, including chromatography, spectroscopy, and data analysis, while exploring validation, quality management, and specialised industry topics. A significant research project enables independent investigation in a laboratory setting, often linked to real industry problems. Overall, the program combines scientific theory, advanced laboratory training, regulatory knowledge, and extensive industry experience to produce highly skilled graduates capable of ensuring the safety, quality, and effectiveness of modern medicinal products in global healthcare industries.
